Why am I always going on about Gazprom? Let’s talk about something beautiful instead. Recently, over at ma79, I came across a link to a remarkable musical phenomenon. The band is called Lolly Pop. Some teenage punks from Tyumen (a city in Siberia). They call their style porno-pop. I’d sooner call it pop-punk or neighborhood punk. Here’s their insane creation, "Creepy Girl."
When I first saw them, I thought this was a fully professional band being promoted in a very clever way—through viral spread. My suspicions were reinforced when I saw they had a paid YouTube channel. But after getting acquainted with the rest of their work, it became clear that the songs are far too off-format for mass promotion. For example, here’s the piece "The Happiest." (on the indecency scale, it scores 4 out of 5 possible points, but the fox pelt on the shoulders deserves an Oscar for Best Costume)
All in all, they still have a lot to work on, but overall they come across like genuine small-town naturals. There are also a few more homemade videos on their YouTube channel.
